TRIBUTE TO PRESIDENT ELY OULD MOHAMED VALL, Former President of Mauritania

May 08, 2017

It is with great sadness and emotion that we learnt the passing of a great Friend of the Crans Montana Forum, Ely Ould Mohamed Vall, Former President of Mauritania, on May 5th, 2017.

Between 2005 and 2007, he helped his country to regain trust from International Institutions, by laying the foundations for a real democracy and strengthening the State’s structure.

In October 2016, Mr. Ely Vall  was presented with the Prix de la Fondation of the Crans Montana Forum, awarding High Level Personalities for their actions in favour of Peace, Freedom and Democracy.

The Official Award Ceremony, chaired by Mr. Didier Reynders, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs of Belgium, took place on the occasion of the last Homeland & Global Security Forum in Brussels (Belgium).

We presented him with this prestigious award, in recognition of conducting the democratic transition in his Country, which lead to the first democratic election of the President in Mauritania.

We pay tribute to him and express our heartfelt condolences to his family and loved ones.
